Even finer was the Evangelist of tenor Todd Teske, just back from Germany where he performed Bach with noted conductor Helmuth Rilling.

Singing in excellent German and taking high notes with ease, he brought a lieder singers sensitivity to the narrator’s role. Especially beautiful was the phrase Da verliessen ihn alle Junger und flohenand, the poignancy with which he described Peter weeping bitterly after thrice denying Christ.
